Iridescent and bright encased glass, fused with a crab in dark violet. Signed in three lines with acid etching "Venini murano Italia". Height approx. 24 cm, diameter of the neck approx. 3.5 cm, max. approx. 15 cm.

Seit den dreißiger Jahren hatte sich der 1915 in Padua geborene Fulvio Bianconi einen hervorragenden Ruf als freischaffender Grafikdesigner in Mailand erarbeitet und schuf dort im Auftrag der großen italienischen Verlagshäuser Mondadori, Rizzoli und Garzanti Buchcover und Illustrationen. Erste Erfahrungen mit Glas hatte der Musikersohn bereits als Fünfzehnjähriger bei Salviati & Cie. gesammelt, wo er Gläser mit Emaillemalereien verzierte. Als Bianconi 1946 nach Murano kam, um eine Serie von Flakons für den Parfumhersteller Paolo Visconti di Modrone zu kreieren, erkannte Paolo Venini sofort sein großes künstlerisches Potenzial und engagierte ihn als Entwerfer. Den ersten durchschlagenden Erfolg feierten Venini und Bianconi 1948 auf der Biennale in Venedig, wo Bianconi Figuren aus der Commedia dell'Arte und eine Serie von Musikanten von höchstem kunsthandwerklichen Niveau präsentierte. In den darauffolgenden Jahren 1950 und 1951 entwarf Bianconi die aus 'Tessere' aufgebauten 'Pezzato'-Vasen und die 'Fazzoletti', die noch heute zu den bekanntesten und beliebtesten Erzeugnissen der Muraneser Glaskunst zählen. Zu Beginn der 1950er Jahre entstanden zahlreiche neue Serien, mit denen die Firma Venini auf der Mailänder Triennale einen Gran Premio-Titel errang. Nach dem Tod von Paolo Venini arbeitete Bianconi auch mit anderen Manufakturen erfolgreich zusammen. Ende der fünfziger Jahre entwarf er für Gino Cenedese dickwandige Vasen in abstrakten Formen. In den sechziger Jahren lieferte er Entwürfe für die Vetreria Vistosi, die auf der XVIII. Triennale in Mailand präsentiert und mit dem von Gio Ponti ins Leben gerufenen Designpreis Compasso d'Oro ausgezeichnet wurden, parallel erneuerte nahm er die Zusammenarbeit mit Venini wieder auf. Bianconis Glaswerke wurden bereits zu seinen Lebzeiten in zahlreichen Ausstellungen präsentiert und waren hoch angesehen. Venini stellte seine Arbeiten in Deutschland und Österreich aus. 1957 waren seine Gläser im Walker Art Center in Minneapolis und in Toronto zu sehen. 1960 waren Bianconi-Entwürfe in der legendären Überblicksschau 'Vetri di Murano 1860-1960' in Verona vertreten.
