Japan. Edo-Zeit (1603-1868). 17./18. Jahrhundert

Sawasa. Kupferbronze mit Vergoldung. Dekor in Relief, teils hinterschnittig, auf punziertem Fond. Kleine, runde Dose von flacher Form, auf einem weiten Standring. Auf dem Deckel eine sechspassig geschweifte Kartusche mit abgesetztem Rand, darin ein springendes Katzentier unter blühenden Pflaumen in einer Gebirgslandschaft. Jeweils den Rand von Unterteil und Deckel schmückt eine gravierte Blätterbordüre, das Unterteil zudem fliegenden Kraniche und blühender Lotus. Im Gebrauch wurde ein großer Teil der Vergoldung abgerieben.

In Japan wurden kleine Kügelchen geformt aus pulverisierten Duftstoffen, die man auf einem Glimmerplättchen erwärmte, um den Duft freizusetzen. In solchen kleinen Dosen wurden die Kügelchen transportiert. Höhe 2,6cm, Ø 5,9cm. Zustand B.
