SELTENE UND GROSSFORMATIGE IKONE IN FORM EINES EPIGONATION MIT CHRISTUS ALS HOHEPRIESTER Griechenland, Kreta, 17. Jahrhundert Verbund zweier Holztafel. Aufgenagelte, geschnitzte und vergoldete Rahmenleiste mit ornamentale Punzierung. Eitempera auf Kreidegrund, Hintergrund vergoldet, Nimbus punziert. 64 x 64 cm. Die Gewandung Christi weist ihn zugleich als Hohepriester und König aus. Diese Ikone hat eine sehr seltene Form und verweist auf das Epigonation, ein liturgischer Stoff, der in der orthodoxen Ostkirche von Bischöfen getragen wird.
