China. Ming Dynasty. Jiajing Period (1521-1566).

Porcelain with dark cobalt blue glaze, 'victims blue' (jilan). The slightly bulbous wall runs in a curved lip. The plate stands on a wide, slightly inward slanted foot ring. Inside and on the outside of the Flag dark-blue glazed, the floor is transparent.

Plates, vases, and other vessels made of porcelain have already been glazed since the Yuan dynasty (1297-1368) with monochromatic colors. They were verwemdet in daily use, but also for ritual purposes and for decoration. This is a dark, so-called victims of blue were used for ceremonies and rituals at the Altar of heaven (tiantan). Height 4.1 cm, Diameter 20.7 cm. In base, under glaze blue six-piece Jiajing mark in a double ring and of the time. Condition C. glaze modified, probably by a fire. Interior Signs Of Wear. Crack on the edge.
Provenance:
Collection Sonderhoff. Locally collected before 1942. In the ground old collector's mark, no longer decipherable.
