China. Ming/Qing Dynasty.

Silk velvet, multi-colored and with metallic threads. Consisting of two panels sewn together. In the centre a large medallion, with Lotus flowers (baoxiang), from the great
Tendrils of leaves extend across the field. In the corners of each of an archaic dragon,
the outer braid with a rain-dragon, which are grouped in pairs around a flaming pearl. A
Between braid with rectangular tendrils. At the four corners is on the edge of each
Zierknoten attached. 212 x 125cm. With turquoise blue lining fabric. Condition B. Loose threads On the edge brittle and with cracks.
These kind of documents were used on day beds made of wood and the heated kang platform, also in the Palace. They were used for convenience, were also at the same time a status symbol due to the patterning, the colour and the preciousness of the used techniques and materials. Velvet fabric per se are expensive, here additional colors and gold threads were also used for patterning.
