A Chinese blue and white and underglaze copper-red Phoenix plate, Yuan Dynasty, 14th century
The interior center medallion of this impressive plate is decorated with a pair of copper-red flying phoenixes among blue floral ornaments with copper-red blossoms. The slightly curved inner wall is decorated with blue flowers and red blossoms. On the rim geometric decoration. Each section is banded and enclosed with double fine blue rings. On the outer wall also floral decoration in underglaze blue and copper-red. The underside within the foot-ring largely unglazed. Excellent condition. No chips or hairline cracks. Diameter 41.5 cm. Weight 2.66 kg.

Provenance: From the estate of a Munich private collection, acquired on the German art market before 1980.

Eindrucksvoller Teller mit gewölbter Wandung und breiter Fahne. Der leicht nach innen gewölbte Spiegel ist mit einem Paar roter Phoenixe sowie Lotusranken in Unterglasurmalerei dekoriert. Das Rankenwerk in kobaltblau, beide Phönixe und die Blüten in kupferrot. Die äußere Wandung ebenfalls mit einem Rankenfries in kobaltblau dekoriert, die Blüten wiederum in kupferrot. Intakt. Durchmesser 41,5 cm.
