Lot 232 | SERVICE OF THE WEDDING OF THE FUTURE CATHERINE II WITH THE FUTURE PETER III OF RUSSIA
Rare set of six sleeves covered in porcelain, polychrome decoration of the imperial eagle of Russia on the one side and the other of the Cross of Saint-André. Good condition, slight wear.
Manufactory of Meissen, Nineteenth century.
L. 9 cm.

Provenance : These sleeves of cutlery manufactured in Meissen are a restocking of the original service of 440 parts offered by the elector of Saxony, Frederick Augustus II to the empress Elizabeth I on the occasion of the marriage of his nephew, grand duke Peter (later Peter III) with Sophie-Auguste von Anhalt-Zerbst (future Catherine II). This service differs from that of the Order of Saint-André in 1780 produced by the manufacture Gardner, in particular in the treatment of the imperial eagle, made in the natural, as well as the Saint-André, represented on a cross, sky blue and, unlike the usual, depicted without a halo with the Latin letters "S. A. P. R." (for Saint Andrew Patron of Russia).
