SERVING DISH FROM THE "DINNER SERVICE FOR THE BERLIN PALACE".

KPM. Berlin.

Date: Around 1770.
Technique: Porcelain, decorated with colors and gold.
Description: Model "Reliefzierat". The rim, indented six times, is circumferentially decorated with a
curved gold-leaf border as well as a fine tendril and rocaille relief, tapering pointedly
into the smooth surface of the center. The three smooth surfaces between the relief
pendantives each decorated with a bouquet of flowers, the relief surfaces each with a
butterfly. In the center a large, polychrome bouquet of flowers.
Measurement: Ø 31cm.
Mark: Sceptre mark, 3 impressed. Dealer's label "A. Popoff & Co - Rue Cambon Paris".

The plate presented here was part of a service ordered by Frederick the Great in 1768 for his palace in Berlin. 36 sets were delivered in the same year, in 1773 a further 72 dinner plates were ordered.
The colourful "natural flowers and few insects" that the king wanted for his new porcelain were intended to make the guests at the table feel transported to an exquisite garden. In contrast to other services in the "Reliefzierath" style, the relief elements in this design are not emphasised with gold or colors. The large surfaces of white porcelain radiate brightly, creating a light, graceful, even spring-like impression.

Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
