Spatha mit breiter, zweischneidiger Klinge. Kern aus tordiertem Damast mit angesetzten Schneiden. Kräftige, leicht konische Angel mit kleinem Pilzknauf aus Bronze. Die Sax mit kräftiger Rückenklinge, unterhalb des Rückens beidseitig zwei gravierte Zierlinien. Kräftige, leicht konische Angel mit geringen Resten der Hilze. Dazu zwei unterschiedlich große, eiserne Schnallen mit anhängenden Gürtelplatten. Länge des Schwertes 87,5 cm, Länge der Spatha 56 cm. Größe der Schnallen 6,5 cm und 9 cm.
Alle Teile im ungereinigten Fundzustand mit anhaftenden Verkrustungen.
Dokumentierte Fundgruppe aus einem Männergrab in Otting im Schwäbischen Landkreis Donau-Ries. Die Inventarisierung des Landesamtes für Denkmalpflege vom 12.11.1993 liegt bei.
A set of Alemannic spatha, seax and belt buckles, 6th/7th century
The spatha with a broad, double-edged blade. The core of twisted Damascus, the cutting edges attached separately. Sturdy, slightly tapered tang with a small mushroom pommel in bronze. The seax with a sturdy single-edged blade, two linear ornaments engraved below the spine on both sides. Sturdy, slightly tapered tang with scant remnants of the grip. Also includes two iron buckles of different sizes with attached belt plates. Length of the sword 87.5 cm, length of the spatha 56 cm. The buckles measuring 6.5 cm and 9 cm.
All components in untouched, as-found condition with incrustations.
Documented group of archaeological finds from the tomb of a man in Otting, in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries. The inventory issued by the State Office for Heritage Management and Archaeology, dated 12 November 1993, is enclosed.
