A large Viking bronze disc, 9th - 11th century
Flat decorative disc whose overlapping ends are riveted. The opening inside is covered by a second, small disc. It is attached to the larger one by means of an eyelet. The rim of the larger disc is decorated with three rows of bosses. Both plates decorated with further bosses and geometric patterns in tremolo stitch. Exquisite patina! Isolated small losses at the rim. Diameter 13 cm.

Provenance: South German private collection. Acquired on the British art market.

Große Zierscheibe, wikingisch, 9. - 11. Jhdt.
Flache Zierscheibe, deren sich überlappende Enden vernietet sind. Die Öffnung im Inneren wird durch eine zweite, kleine Scheibe bedeckt. Sie ist mittels einer Öse an der größeren befestigt. Am Rand der größeren Scheibe dreireihige Buckelverzierung. Beide Platten mit weiteren Buckeln und geometrischen Mustern im Tremolierstich dekoriert. Edelpatina! Vereinzelte kleine Ausbrüche am Rand. Durchmesser 13 cm.

Provenienz: Süddeutsche Privatsammlung. Auf dem englischen Kunstmarkt erworben.
