Nach dem Vorbild eines Gießlöwen aus dem Lüneburger Ratsilber, der 1540 dem Rat der Stadt vom Bürgermeister Hartwig Stöterogge geschenkt worden war und während des Mahles der Handwaschung diente. Ein formgleiches Stück befindet sich im Inventar des Brooklyn-Museums.
A partially gilt silver aquamanile, 19th century
Silver, partially gilt. The pouring vessel in the shape of a fully sculptured lion with a gilt mane. A hinged lid on the filling hole on the lion's head. Bifurcated spout with the head of a serpent in its maw. A grotesque gryphon on its back, its tail curving around the lion's tail. One forepaw is supported by a scrolled shield, on which is engraved a lion rampant. Apparently unmarked. Dimensions 23 x 29 x 13 cm, weight 1244 g.
Modelled after a lion aquamanile from the "Lüneburger Ratssilber", which was presented to the city council by Mayor Hartwig Stöterogge in 1540. It was used for the washing of hands during meals. A similar object can be found in the Brooklyn Museum.

The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
