SITZENDORF "Tailor Couple on goats", 20th century, two figures based on a Meissner model: billy goats each standing on a rectangular landscape base with the attributes glasses, iron and pincushion, the tailor riding on it in baroque clothing with a shoulder bag, knife, glasses and hat, small firing crack under the glaze on the base; the dressmaker sitting sideways with a shoulder bag, scissors and tape measure, glasses in hand, each with blue stamp of the Sitzendorf manufactory, height 24.5 cm. Great receipt.
The Meissner original was made by J.J. Kaendler designed in 1737, according to a legend, this figure tells the anecdote of a court tailor who desired to sit at the courtly table in Dresden. The courtiers made fun of it and ordered a figurine from Kaendler that mocked the tailor. Whether the anecdote led to the design of the character or vice versa remains open.
