Lot 46 | Skythischer Stabaufsatz (Rassel mit Tierkopf), 7. - 6. Jhdt. v. Chr.
Estimate value
€ 1 600
Typisches Beispiel des frühskythischen Tierstils.
Provenienz: Ostdeutsche Privatsammlung.
A Scythian stick attachment (rattle with animal head, probably predatory cat), 7th - 6th century B.C.
Iron rod, 23 cm long, pointed at the bottom, opening into an approx. 2.5 cm long spout of a cone-shaped bronze attachment. This is crowned by a stylised animal head, probably representing a predatory cat. The hollow cone is pierced by seven long-triangular slits. Inside is an iron ball that makes a noise when moved. Beautiful olive green patina of the bronze cone top, covered extensively with light bluish oxide deposits. Professional removal of these overlays would show off the smooth surface and details of the animal's head to advantage. Probably ornament of a carriage. Total length 34 cm.
Typical example of the early Scythian animal style.
Provenance: East German private collection.
