NOTE:
So Shiseki (1715-1786) was born in Edo (now Tokyo) with his birth name Kusumoto Kōhachirō. He travelled to Nagasaki and started to study Flower-and-Bird painting techniques first with Kumashiro Yūhi. Later, he focused on studies with Sō Shigan, which he changed his name to So Shiseki. So Shiseki was a key character who brought Shen Quan’s Flower-and-Bird painting technique to Edo, integrating his painting skills which made a great influence on his students.
