Exemplaire relié à l’époque de l’édition originale, supervisée par Sebastian Münster qui a vraisemblablement réalisé la grande carte de l’Asie comprenant la première représentation de la côte nord-ouest de l’Amérique jamais imprimée (Burden). Elle est alors désignée comme terra incognita. Burden 11; BMC/STC German p. 818 ; USTC : 617616

2 parties en 1 volume in-folio (297 x 202 mm). Exemplaire réglé. 18 bois dans le texte (dont certains à pleine page) et 2 cartes dépliantes. Annotations marginales anciennes (mouillures marginales dans l’ensemble du volume, avec pertes en marge supérieure du titre, petite restauration marginale à la carte de la Grèce).
Reliure de l’époque : veau brun estampé à froid, fleurons dorés aux angles, fer doré au centre des plats représentant l’archange Saint Michel, dos à nerfs (taches, craquelures et frottements).

First edition, edited by Sebastian Münster, likely the cartographer for the "Asia Maior" folding map which contains "the earliest representation of the north-west coast of America on a printed map" (Burden). It takes the form of a land mass in the upper right corner labeled "Terra Incognita," and depicts a small bay, trees, and hills. Burden further notes that the Asia Maior map shows one of the first delineations of a strait between Asia and America, some two hundred years before Bering's voyages to the region.
