Rare first edition, complete with also its sixth volume, of the well known treatise on the last great journey of the abbot, geologist, volcanologist and mineralogist Lazzaro Spallanzani. Inside are detailed descriptions of Vesuvio's, Etna's and Sicily's ilslands' volcanic activity, studies on the Appennino and on the animals present on the lands explored.

6 volumes, 8vo (220 x 131mm). Half-titles, 11 engraved folding plates (occasional light tears at the bottom of the page that do not affect the text, very small stains and wormholes, especially in the 6th volume where a small trace of worming is present at the lower margin from about half of the book). Contemporary boards with modern dust-jacket (light soiling). Provenance: "alis laetus sibi sapiens" (bookplate). (6)
