Silber vergoldet, teilweise emailliert, die Kette selbst besteht aus 16 Gliedern, davon entfallen 7 auf das Symbol der spanischen Könige mit dem Pfeilen durchstoßenden Joch, umrahmt von den königlichen Chiffren, weitere 6 auf das Symbol des spanischen Königreich, dass sich über die Kontinente erstreckt, wie dem Wappenschild auf der Brust des Adlers, welches das Kleinod trägt, das Kleinod selbst mit beweglich aufgehängter Agraffe, die Rückseite des zentralen Ketttenglieds graviert "Fernando Léon y Castillo / marquis del Muni / 1904".
Seltene Kette, dieses hohen und bedeutenden spanischen Orden, die nur in wenigen Exemplaren zur Verleihung gekommen ist.
Fernando León y Castillo war studierter Jurist, arbeitete als Anwalt und Politiker und war Gouverneur von Granada und Valencia. Außerdem wurde er Staatssekretär und war zeitweise stellvertretender Sekretär für die überseeischen Gebiete Spaniens. Ab 1887 bis 1918 hat er als Botschafter Spaniens in Frankreich seinen Dienst verübt.
Die Verleihung der Kette des Ordens Isabella der Katholischen dürfte im Zusammenhang mit seiner Tätigkeit als spanischer Gesandter stehen, in dessen Funktion er am 18. Mai 1904 für den spanischen König das internationale Abkommen zur Bekämpfung des weißen Sklavenhandels in Paris unterzeichnete. Im Jahre 1910 wurde er zum Ritter des Goldenen Vlies ernannt und verteidigte während des 1. Weltkrieges aktiv die spanische Neutralitätspolitik. Er verstarb im Jahre 1918 - seine sterblichen Überreste wurden zehn Jahre später auf seiner Geburtsinsel Gran Canaria in der Kathedrale von Las Palmas im Inneren der Kathedrale zur dauerhaften Ruhe verbracht. Im Jahre 1992 erfolgte die letzte Ehrung seiner Person durch die Insel Gran Canaria mit der Ernennung zum 1. Sohn der Insel (primer hijo predilecto de la isla de Gran Canaria).
