Lot 25 | Spätarchaische Augenschale, attisch, spätes 6. Jhdt. v. Chr.
Kylix mit Stengelfuß, darüber Schale mit seitlich angesetzten, horizontalen Henkeln und Malerei in guter Qualität, ca. 510/500 v. Chr. Innenseite mit schwarzem Kreisauge innerhalb roten Kreises im Zentrum, ansonsten vollflächig mit schwarzem Glanzton versehen. Auf der Außenseite die Henkel von je zwei nackten Jünglingsfiguren flankiert, diese in verschiedenen gymnastischen Positionen. Zwischen den Jünglingen je ein Augenpaar, die Iris in rot gehalten, der Augapfel in Weiß, Pupille und Umrahmung schwarz. Innerhalb der Henkel Palmetten, darunter hängende Lotosblüten. Fuß und Stengel mit schwarzem Glanzton versehen, darüber auf dem unteren Teil der Schale Strahlenkranz, darüber dicke Linie, oben und unten von drei dünnen Linien gerahmt. Aus Scherben zusammengesetzt, aber nahezu vollständig erhalten, mit geringfügigen, kleinen Fehlstellen. Höhe 10,2 cm, Breite von Henkel zu Henkel 28,8 cm.
Provenienz: Frankfurter Privatsammlung. Erworben bei Hermann Historica im April 2016 (Auktion 72, Los 4558). Zuvor Sammlung eines altphilologisch gebildeten Augenarztes im östlichen Baden-Württemberg. Erworben 1972 bei der Münzen und Medaillen AG Basel.

Kylix with a stem base, the bowl with horizontal handles set at each side, the painting executed with good workmanship, ca. 510/500 B.C. The interior adorned with a round black eye in a red circle in the middle, the remaining surface painted entirely in lustrous black. Both handles flanked on the outside by two figures of naked youths, posing in different gymnastic positions. A pair of eyes between the youths on each side, the iris painted red, the eyeball white, the pupil and border in black. Palmette décor within the handles, with lotus blossom hanging beneath. The base and stem painted in lustrous black, above which the lower surface of the bowl bears a sun burst, surmounted by a thick line, with a border of three thin lines at the top and bottom. Assembled from several fragments, however almost completely intact, with a few small defects. Height 10.2 cm, width from handle to handle 28.8 cm.
Provenance: Frankfurt private collection. Acquired from Hermann Historica in April 2016 (auction 72, lot 4559). Previously in the collection of an ophthalmologist educated in classical philology in eastern Baden-Württemberg. Acquired in 1972 from the Münzen und Medaillen AG Basel.

First of all, you should register to be able to purchase at auction. After confirming your email address, enter your personal information in your user profile, such as your first name, last name, and mail address. Choose a lot from the upcoming auction and the maximum amount you want to place on it. After confirmation of your choice, we will send your application by e-mail to the appropriate auction house. If the auction house accepts a request, it will participate in the auction. You can view the current status of a bid at any time in your personal account in the "Bids" section.
Auctions are performed by auction houses and each of the auction houses describes their terms of auction. You can see the texts in the section "Auction information".
The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
