Spätgotischer Flügel-Hausaltar. Hochrechteckiger, gefasster, bemalter und vergoldeter, hölzerner Schrein mit Schnitzwerk und zwei in Tafelmalerei ausgeführten Flügeln aus dem Umkreis von Hans Schäufelein (um 1480/85 - 1538/40), ausgeführt wohl für einen hohen Kleriker. Auf den Flügelaußenseiten szenische Darstellung der Verkündigung Mariens durch den Erzengel Gabriel in einem Interieur unter filigranem Akanthuswerk. Auf der linken Seite die Jungfrau Maria mit langem, offenem Haar und Scheibennimbus, an einem altarartigen Möbel in einem aufgeschlagenen Buch lesend; über ihr eine Taube als Symbol für den Heiligen Geist, unter ihr ein Topf mit Maiglöckchen als Symbol für die jungfräuliche Empfängnis, Demut und Bescheidenheit Mariens. Ihr gegenüber auf der rechten Bildseite stehend Gabriel mit langem Heroldsstab in seiner linken Hand. Den Figuren zugeordnet Schriftbänder mit lateinischen Textzeilen "Ecce ancilla domini" ("Siehe, die Magd des Herrn") und "Ave gratia plena dominus (tecum)" ("Sei gegrüßt, du voll der Gnade! Der Herr ist mit dir!") nach dem Lukas Evangelium, die zugleich Teil der häufigen Gebete "Angelus Domini", "Ave Maria" und "Rosenkranz" sind. Auf den Flügel-Innenseiten die jungfräulichen Heiligen Dorothea und Genoveva von Paris vor Wandteppichen unter Halbrundbögen mit Akanthusranken stehend: Dorothea mit Blumenkranz und -korb, zu ihren Füßen das Jesuskind mit Rosenstängel; Genoveva mit brennender Kerze als Attribut. Am Unterrand der Flügel die Datierung "1508". Der Mittelschrein mit korrespondierend gestalteter, gemalter Tapisserie, die obere, goldene Fläche der Rückwand mit punziertem Muster; vorderseitig bekrönt durch ein geschnitztes, gotisches Maßwerk mit Akanthusranken. Im Schrein eingestellt eine spätgotische Mondsichelmadonna aus geschnitztem, gefasstem und partiell vergoldetem Holz, rücks. gehöhlt; Maria in bodenlangem Gewand stehend, das Christuskind auf ihrer rechten Hand sitzend, zu ihren Füßen flankiert von zwei Engeln, welche die Mondsichel festhalten; Fassung übergangen u. rest., linke Hand Mariens erg.; Beigefügt zwei Messing-Scheibenleuchter. Schrein H. ca. 119 cm, B. vorne ca. 98 cm, hinten ca. 91 cm; Flügel jeweils ca. 115 cm x 44,5 cm; Ges.-B. (ausgeklappt) ca. 180 cm.
Die Verkündigung gehörte zu den häufigsten Motiven spätgotischer Flügelaltäre, entsprechend der tief empfundenen Marienverehrung, zu der bei diesem Altar auch die zwei weiteren Heiligen Dorothea und Genoveva passen.
A painted double-winged South German probably Franconian home altarpiece depicting the Annunciation and the Saints Dorothea of Caesarea and Genevieve. In the central shrine a German carved, painted and gilt wooden sculpture of the Woman of the Apocalypse with two angels. Accompanied by two South German brass candlesticks. Polychromy of the sculpture overpainted and restored, left hand of Mary replaced.
