Lot 16 | STEREN MOUNTAIN, DAVID (1881-1948)
STERENBERG, DAVID (1881-1948) still life with fish Oil on canvas in oval, Signed in cyrillic 'D. Shtérenberg" in the bottom right 74,5 x 61.5 cm. Provenance : Gift of Fialka Sterenberg, daughter of the artist, Andre Nakov, Moscow, 1982. Acquired from the latter in 1995 by the current owner. Private Collection, Switzerland. Our still life was painted in the 1920s, when the painter was at the Academy Vitti in contact with Henri Martin and Kees van Dongen. The works of this creative period are largely inspired by the cubism and the palette of Cezanne. Its composition is of an extreme simplicity and recognizable by his voluntary absence of perspective. The space is entirely taken by the subject from which the forms tend to blur in front of the primate of the color. The art of the still life of Shterenberg is marked by the fascination for the subject and desire to capture the essence of timeless. The example of Spinoza he contemplates the world sub specie aeternitatis.
