Gelehrter, der ein Kiefer berührt. Tusche auf Papier, als Hängerolle montiert. Inschrift und Signatur des Künstlers: "Ich berühre die einsame Kiefer, die sich im Winde erhebt, Frost und Tau sind auf sie gefallen, wie sollte es nicht sein, wie immer. Beschriftet von Renshan". Zwei Siegel des Künstlers: "Su Changchun", "Renshan".

Su Renshan, persönlicher Name Changchun, war ein exzentrisches Malergenie aus der Präfektur Shunde in der Provinz Guangdong. Er war der Sohn eines Beamten und eines Amateurmalers und sollte eigentlich auch Beamter werden. Nachdem er jedoch dreimal bei den Prüfungen für den öffentlichen Dienst durchgefallen war, widmete er sein Leben der Malerei, seiner Leidenschaft seit frühester Kindheit. Er entwickelte einen sehr persönlichen, linearen Stil von Landschaften und Figuren, deren Motive er oft aus im Holzschnitt gedruckten Malbüchern entnahm. Das vorliegende Gemälde ist ein Beispiel für einen fast minimalistischen Stil. Der Künstler geriet weitgehend in Vergessenheit und wurde erst in den 1920er Jahren wiederentdeckt - Etwas berieben, Altersspuren
