Su Renshan, persönlicher Name Changchun, war ein exzentrisches Malergenie aus der Präfektur Shunde in der Provinz Guangdong. Er war der Sohn eines Beamten und eines Amateurmalers und sollte eigentlich auch Beamter werden. Nachdem er jedoch dreimal bei den Prüfungen für den öffentlichen Dienst durchgefallen war, widmete er sein Leben der Malerei, seiner Leidenschaft seit frühester Kindheit. Er entwickelte einen sehr persönlichen, linearen Stil von Landschaften und Figuren, deren Motive er oft aus im Holzschnitt gedruckten Malbüchern entnahm. Das vorliegende Gemälde ist ein Beispiel für einen fast minimalistischen Stil.
