Pocket watch: English verge watch with enamelled case in Renaissance style, England 19th century
Ca. Ø56mm, approx. 144g, silver and enamel, master's mark MH and case number 2480, English movement with serial number 52064, plate marked John Ford Ticehurst, original enamel dial, fancy original hands, verge escapement, in working order. The watch comes with a decorative silver watch chain with key. The case of this extremely rare verge watch is very elaborate and extremely beautiful. It was made in the style of the 17th century, but dates from the 19th century like the movement, although it still has a verge escapement. The name on the plate is probably not the watchmaker but a reference to John Ford of Ticehurst (1629-1714). This would also explain the style of the case.
