Pocket watch: extremely rare Royal Navy 34-minute carousel in manner of Bahne Bonniksen, Evan Roberts 1895
Ca. Ø57mm, ca. 171g, No. 20991/20791, silver case with English Hallmarks from 1895, extremely rare carousel movement with 34-minute carousel, military marking of the Royal Navy, signed and numbered Evan Roberts No. 20991, Watchmaker to the Admiralty, original signed and numbered enamel dial in very beautiful original condition, blued steel hands, in working order, in very good condition, very fine and museum quality deck watch. Evan Roberts (1836-1918) was a Welsh watchmaker and clock dealer who also built up a significant collection of his own, some of his watches were displayed at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Already towards the end of the 19th century there were several publications in which the collection was presented. After his death he left large parts of it to the Victoria & Albert Museum and the London Science Museum, others went to the National Museum of Wales. The Dictionary of Welsh Biography calls Evan Roberts 'the greatest horological collector of all'.
