Ca. Ø56.5mm, approx. 177g, magnificent pierced silver case with representations of birds, squirrels, mythical creatures, 2 village views and a portrait of an angel, bell, early verge movement with Egyptian pillars, pierced bridge, creating an optical effect when the balance moves (automaton), decorated with an enamel plaque with portrait, magnifying painting against a black background, probably painting by Mussard or Huaud, plate signed A. Endelin a Bale, quarter repeater, excellently preserved enamel dial, beautiful iron hands, optically in excellent condition and intact, very good sound, striking mechanism needs adjustment. Another special feature is the negative winding square and the probably original key that belongs to it. Oignons with repeaters, enamel painting and so-called automata, which create optical effects by transmitting the balance oscillation, are generally very rare. In the case of this piece, the watchmaker also belonged to an important Basel watchmaking family that was already producing pocket watches around 1650. The signature A. Enderlin points to William Andreas Enderlin (1681-1731). At least one other watch by Enderlin is known, which is almost matching (https://www.cortrie.de/go/e6e).
