Ca. Ø54mm, ca. 148g, 18K Gold, Doppelgehäuse mit Seitenscharnier, Londoner Hallmarks 1781, übereinstimmend in beiden Gehäusen, Gehäusemacher-Punze MR/IL, Gehäusenummer 1162, signierter und nummerierter Staubdeckel, No.1162, nummerngleich mit dem Werk, prächtig gravierter Kloben, Diamantdeckstein, Zylinderhemmung, Emaillezifferblatt mit feinem alten Haarriss, originale Poker & Beetle Zeiger aus massiv Rotgold, funktionstüchtig, sehr schöner, komplett originaler Zustand, sehr bedeutender Londoner Chronometermacher. Alexander Cumming war Mathematiker und Mechaniker sowie Uhrmacher. Über sein frühes Leben ist wenig bekannt. Er wurde 1733 in Edinburgh als Sohn von James Cumming aus Duthil geboren. Ihm werden zahlreiche wichtige Erfindungen zugeschrieben. 1765 erfand er z.B. eine Uhr für George III, die auch als Barometer fungierte und den Luftdruck gegen die Zeit aufzeichnete. Dies war der erste Barograph mit präziser Aufzeichnung. 1766 fertigte er ein ähnliches Modell für seinen persönlichen Gebrauch an, das nach seinem Tod von Luke Howard gekauft wurde, der es für seine Beobachtungen im Buch "The Climate of London" verwendete.
