Ø58mm, ca. 168g, 18K gold, pair case, unusual design, pink gold outside, yellow gold inside, engine turned, matching London Hallmarks from 1805, maste's punch IR, watchpaper, very fine English chronometer movement, special balance, diamond endstone, plate signed and inscribed Chronometer No.1351, enamel dial, gold hands, in good condition, in working order. Provenance: Antiquorum Geneva 2002, then auctioned for ca. 15,000 Swiss Francs. James Hatton (ca. 1740 - 1815) was an important British watchmaker, who besides clocks also made very beautiful chronometers. In 1773 he published his "Introduction to Clock and Watchwork". In search of the best toothing he experimented extensively and found a new mechanism for an epicycloidal tooth form. He became a chronometer maker for the East India Company. The watch was part of one of the most important European chronometer collections.
