A THANGKA DEPICTING BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI - Tibet, 18th/ 19th c. - The centre of the painting is occupied by Buddha Shakyamuni seated in vajrasana on a lotus-base placed on an elaborate constructed throne with an altar table to its front, his right hand lowered in bhumisparshamudra while the left is resting on his lap supporting the alms-bowl, wearing monastic garment, his face displaying a serene expression, double halo behind, in two arcs around him are the eighteen arhats visible, the upper register with the central red coloured Amitabha flanked by Syamatara, two Buddha figures, Sadaksharilokeshvara, Padmasambhava and a lama, both lower corners with each two lokapalas and all placed in a mountainous landscape, the reverse with inscription in the dBu-med script. Framed. - Important German private collection, collected in the 1970s and 80s, mainly acquired at Schoettle Ostasiatica, Stuttgart. Minor traces of age, very minor rest.
