Thangka, TIBET, probably 18th c., Depiction of the thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara. The Bodhisattva of Compassion who is often depicted with eleven heads has three eyes and shows a variety of faces. The deity, who is also considered the patron god of Tibet, is depicted with an angry expression and sitting in meditation on a throne. Two other Buddhas are depicted in the upper two corners. Tempera on cotton fabric. The mount is made of brown cotton fabric and backed with a coarse fabric. Inscribed on the back. With metal rod. Very many and strong age damage also large and dark water stains.
