SPENSER, Edmund (1552?-1599). The Faerie Queene. London: for J. Brindley, 1751.

A finely illustrated edition of Spenser’s great English epic, in contemporary red morocco. The engravings are by William Kent, famous for his English landscapes which here beautifully illustrate Spenser’s rich allegorical poem of fierce lady knights, monsters, duels, and Classical gods and goddesses. ESTC T35152.

Three volumes, quarto (276 x 210mm). 32 double-page engraved illustrations after William Kent mounted on stubs; woodcut head- and tail-pieces (some occasional spots and light dustsoiling). Contemporary English red morocco gilt, possibly by John Brindley.
