BURTON, Virgina Lee (1908-1968). The Little House. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1942.

The first edition, in dust jacket. Virginia Lee Burton won the Caldecott Medal for this beloved children's classic, which along with Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel is her best-known work. She said that the story was based on her own house's experience of being moved from the street to a field full of daisies. Grolier Children's 86.

Oblong quarto. Illustrated by the author. (Minor fingersoiling to dedication page.) Original pictorial cloth (minor rubbing to extremities), color pictorial endpapers; color pictorial dust jacket (light toning and soiling, narrow dampstain to edges and two tape reinforcements to verso, chip to lower left corner of back panel). Small, contemporary bookseller's ticket for "The Personal Book Shop / Boston" at the front.
