Ancient Kingdom of Khmer, probably pre-Angkor, approx. 8. Century.
HEIGHT (WITHOUT A SOCK) 61.5 CM
Rare sculpture from earlier time. Vishnu is a high deity in the triad, alongside Brahma and Shiva and is revered as an embodiment of goodness and preservation. Vishnu is shown in this picture, it is in hieratic frontality, and wears a high cylindrical Kiritamukuta-crown, mustaches, and around the hips, a belted Sambat. The so-called "fish-tail crease" is formed on a cloth, which is wound around the belt. The sculpture was once vierarmig, and thus also of the attributes. On the chest there is a Shrivatsa Emblem. Vishnu - hindu-mythological in a very multi-faceted deity, seen - due to its avatars, in the Khmer Empire, however, he was above all an identification of the kings, especially since he was also the ray of the sun gods. The Ruler-Royale comes out in this sculpture in the design of the facial features very well. Mounted on a black wooden base.
