The Yellow Book

An Illustrated Quarterly, 1894-1897

The Yellow Book. An Illustrated Quarterly. London: Elkin Mathews & John Lane, April 1894-April 1897.

The fine Manney copy of the complete run of the most influential periodical of the 1890s. With Aubrey Beardsley as its first art editor, The Yellow Book was an icon of the aesthetic movement. "To turn the pages of the Yellow Book...is to recapture the best moments of an all too brief decade passionately dedicated to the faith that life is meant to be lived in the spirit of art" (Wilde and the Nineties).

13 volumes, quarto. Numerous plates by various artists with tissue-guards, some volumes unopened. Original bright yellow pictorial cloth (minor wear and soiling). Provenance: Richard Manney (his sale, Sotheby's 11 October 1991, lot 322).
