Table clock: decorative Boulle clock, 19th century, important German clockmaker, Paul Thimig Dresden
Ca. 33 × 17 × 11 cm, brass/wood, baroque-style case, so-called Boulle technique, round full plate movement with sun pendulum, plate signed B & G 1884, half hour strike on bell, signed cartouche dial, blued iron hands, intact, striking needs cleaning, glass with crack. Paul (Theodor) Thimig was a clockmaker in Dresden and was born around 1850. He first set up his business at Schlossstraße 6. Probably in the neighbourhood or in his parents' house. He applied to be the main representative (main branch) of the Lange & Söhne company. Less than 20 metres further on, Robert Pleißner had his shop on the corner of Schlossstraße and Rosmaringasse. He founded his company around 1870 and worked until around 1915, later moving his business to Prager Straße 6. He was appointed purveyor to the Royal Saxon Court by Her Majesty the Queen. Thimig also represented the Patek Philippe company in Dresden.
