"Der Verleger Henri Flammarion hatte schon im Februar 1943 den Plan, die sechs wunderlichen Erzählungen des 1904 geborenen Schriftstellers Maurice Toesca mit Illustrationen von Picasso zu veröffentlichen .. Am 30. April 1944 machte Picasso sechs Kupferstiche; abgesehen von einer Radierung (La Torera ) sind sie die einzigen Graphiken dieses Jahres .. Die erste Abbildung konfrontiert ein idealisiertes Frauenprofil mit einer abstrakt konstruierten Kunstfigur . Es folgen ein weiblicher Akt und ein Portrait von Dora Maar im Profil. Die abstrakte Figur der vierten Abbildung ist eine graphische Transposition des Ölbildes vom 27. April 1944, die zugleich an Skulpturen von 1931 und die "Buste de femme" von 1943 erinnert. Die fünfte Abbildung zeigt ein Gesicht in der Art einer afrikanischen Dan-Maske. Die letzte Abbildung zeigt einen Frauenkopf mit einer Blumengirlande im Haar" (Goeppert, Kat. Basel). Neben dieser Ausgabe auf Vélin Montaval erschien noch eine Suitenausgabe und weitere 100 Exemplare auf Vergé d'arches. - 1 of 75 numbered copies on Vélin Montaval. With 6 orig. engravings by P.
