A complete copy, the first volume contains 28 double-page maps originally published by Mercator in 1578. The second volume is illustrated with 19 maps, 15 double-page of Ortelius' Parergon, a folding map and the 4 double-page maps that make up the famous Tabula Peutingeriana. The Tabula reproduces the renown manuscript map of the XII century, now preserved at the Albertina in Vienna, which incorporates an original Roman road map of the third century, printed for the first time in 1591 by Welser in Venice.
Folio (424 x 275mm). Half-title, two engraved titles, portrait of Mercator before the half-title for "In Tabulas Ptolemaicas", 45 double-page maps and 2 folding maps (of which 4 illustrate the Tabula Peutingeriana), Variant B: the publication data is missing on the title and the portrait of Bertius is not printed on the back of the card * [ast.] 1 (browning throughout and foxing, mainly in text and on the maps in the second part, tear to paper 2c6 without loos of text, some other minor tears, final leaves with a hole in the outer margins which doesn't affect the maps but just touches slightly the one of Greece). Contemporary calf with gilt title and decorations on spine (worn, front cover detached).
