A shako for a one-year volunteer of the machine gun divisions, circa 1914
Private purchase piece in quality befitting an officer. Elegant body, covered in field green felt cloth, with a ventilation filter on each side. The cover, band and peak in brown patent leather. Complete with all mounts in gilt, non-ferrous metal. Screw-mounted outline of a Prussian eagle in officer's issue at the front, brown patent leather strap on gilt fittings attached to M 91 side post lugs. A Reich cockade in lacquered sheet metal on the left, a Prussian field insignia with black velvet padding inserted at the top. A light-coloured leather sweatband on the inside with interlaced white silk ribbon, light-coloured silk rep lining, the wearer's initials "W.G." handwritten in the cover. Only lightly worn, however, the field-grey cloth is somewhat stained and shows some minor moth damage. Slightly damaged in places, signs of age.
