Slade, also called Mushaver Pasha, was a naval officer in the Turkish service and an author. "In January 1834 Slade was appointed additional lieutenant of the Caledonia, flagship of Sir Josias Rowley. During the next three years he was employed on several missions to Greece and Constantinople." (ONDB)
