The arms and initials E.D.C. are those of Ernest Augustus (1771-1837), Duke of Cumberland, fifth son of George III, King of Great Britain and Hanover. In 1837, Princess Victoria became Queen of Great Britain and in accordance with Salic law, her uncle Ernest Augustus ascended the throne of Hanover. The initials E.A.F.s (Ernest Augustus Fidei commissum) denotes the entailed estate of Ernest Augustus within the Royal Treasuries.
