AN UNUSUAL BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI - China, ca. 17th c. - Seated in vajrasana on a lotus base placed on a fenced throne supported by four adorants, his right hand in bhumisparshamudra while the left is resting on his lap, wearing monastic garment including underskirt and mantle, its borders cast with scrolling tendrils, his face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows, elongated earlobes and his curled hair continuing into the ushnisha and topped with a lotus bud. - From the collection of the merchant Alfred Julius Forkel (1873-1934), acquired in China before 1910, described in the collector's diary, written between 1901 and 1910, on page 74, no. 15 (?) - Minor wear, slightly chipped, few small repairs

Sitzend in Vajrasana auf einem Lotussockel, der auf einem umzäunten Thron steht, der von vier Anbetern gestützt wird, seine rechte Hand in Bhumisparshamudra, während die linke auf seinem Schoß ruht, er trägt ein klösterliches Gewand mit Unterrock und Mantel, dessen Ränder mit Rankenwerk besetzt sind, sein Gesicht zeigt einen heiteren Ausdruck mit niedergeschlagenen Augen unter gewölbten Augenbrauen, verlängerten Ohrläppchen und sein gelocktes Haar, das sich in die Ushnisha fortsetzt und mit einer Lotusknospe gekrönt ist.
