Origin: Khmer style.
Date: Probably 18th-19th c.
Technique: Bronze with casting core. Greenish brown powdry patina.
Measurement: H.50cm.
The standing bronze figure of Vishnu, apparently used for the Deva-Ruja ritual which invokes Vishnu to inhabit the King's person at the time of consecration and to establish a divine identity (God-King) beyond the merely mortal existence. The casted figure here is very similar to the stone statue of Vishnu which is worshiped until today in Angkor Wat.
Provenance:
North German privte collection. Family owned for about 30 years.
-Traces of age and use. -Cracks and missing parts in the bronze. -There are defects on the lower legs. -Cracks or breaks on the wrists, restored.
