A GROUP OF FOUR HORN POISON-CONTAINERS AND A DRUM - Tibet, ca. 19th c. - Religious utensils. These containers made horn are used to hold poisonous powders. In Esoteric Buddhist rituals, people put some lethal powders into it and then recite some curses. The curses then become "poisonous powders" used to expel evil influences and spirits. Scorpions and strange four-legged creatures are carved on the horns, making people feel very dreadful. These carvings symbolize poisonous curses. - Important German private collection, collected in the 1970s and 80s, mostly acquired at Schoettle Ostasiatica, Stuttgart Traces of age, partly chipped
