Iconic work of a Perugian publishing enterprise and one of the most important illustrated editions published in Perugia in the 16th-century. It is the first edition translated and commented by Giovan Battista Caporali (1476-1560), architect and painter, which includes the first five books of Vitruvius' Architecture and the only work published by Count Giano Bigazzini. Bigazzini set up his own printing workshop by renting press and typefaces from Cosimo Veronese and by hiring the composer Vittorio Muzioli. Text and illustrations are based on the famous Como edition of 1521 but have a more popular design.

Folio (282 x 200mm). Title within architectural woodcut border, portrait engraved by Giano Bigazzini on A2r, numerous woodcut illustrations in text, some of which are full page, large initials and text surrounded by the comment in smaller font (some slight stains and minimal marginal repairs to first and final corner). Modern antique-style calf binding with blind-stamped decorations and gilt spine; preserved in a modern decorated paper case.
