Polychromer Volutenkrater. Das Hauptbildfeld des bauchigen Körpers zeigt einen mit Helm, Rundschild, Schienbeinpanzern und Speer bewaffneten Krieger im Lauf nach rechts, mit wehendem blauen Mantel. Der Hintergrund ist rosa. Bildfeld zwei wird gefüllt von einer Dame im Profil. Sie trägt Ohrschmuck und eine Perlenkette am Hals, zudem ist das Haar mit Bändern und weiteren Perlenketten drapiert. Zwischen den Bildfeldern, unterhalb der Henkel Palmettendekoration. Die Schulterzone mit rechteckigen Feldern mit U-förmiger, abwechselnd in Blau und Rosa gefärbter Binnenstruktur (stilisierter Eierstab) verziert. Der Hals ist auf der Seite des Hauptbildfeldes flächig mit einem rosa Schuppenmuster bemalt, während sich auf der Rückseite Bänder und stilisierte vegetabile Motive finden. Die Volutenscheiben sind mit stilisierten Rosetten dekoriert. Zudem befindet sich mittig auf jeder Volute ein Bohrloch, das z. B. eine Blume oder anderen Schmuck aufnehmen konnte. Da der Gefäßboden im Bereich des Fußes offen ist, handelt es sich um ein Grabgefäß. Fuß gebrochen und restauriert. Sonst intakt. Höhe 39 cm. Durchmesser 18,5 cm. Im Vergleich zur rotfigurigen apulischen Ware mit ihrer sehr stark reduzierten Farbigkeit zeugt diese hellenistische Keramik von einer Farbrevolution in der Keramikproduktion. Durch neue Techniken und ein deutlich erweitertes Farbspektrum - eingesetzt wurden intensive Tempera-Farben, die nach dem Brand aufgetragen wurden - wurden nunmehr Bilder geschaffen von einer nicht gekannten Farbigkeit. Nur selten hat sich von den Farbpigmenten noch so viel erhalten wie auf diesem Objekt. Provenienz: Aus in Deutschland verwahrter Privatsammlung.
