Werk aus dem frühen Oeuvre des Künstlers mit ganzfiguriger Darstellung eines stehenden Holzfällers im Profil mit geschulterter Axt, der nach getaner Arbeit seine Feierabend-Pfeife raucht. Das Gemälde verbindet in seinem für Leistikow ungewöhnlichen figürlichen Motiv Stilelemente des Realismus in der Tradition von Courbet, Millet und der Schule von Barbizon mit einer impressionistischen, auf die Gesamtstimmung angelegten Sichtweise. Zu den wenigen motivisch vergleichbaren Gemälden Leistikows zählt ein 1888 entstandenes, kleines Bildnis eines alten Holzfällers (bzw. Bauern mit Säge), das sich heute im Muzeum Okregowe in Bydgoszcz in Polen befindet. Um 1900 war Leistikow neben Max Liebermann und Lesser Ury einer der bedeutendsten Protagonisten der Moderne in Berlin. Bereits 1892 hatte er mit Liebermann die berühmte Künstlergruppe "Die XI" und 1898 die "Berliner Secession" gegründet, zu deren führenden Persönlichkeiten er gehörte. Seit circa 1895 wurde er neben symbolistischen Gemälden und Grafiken, die dem Jugendstil nahestehen, vor allem durch seine träumerisch-melancholischen Stimmungsbilder der Wälder und Seen in der Mark Brandenburg und Berlin bekannt. The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
