1913. Öl/Lw. 45 x 35,5 cm. R. o. monogr. und dat. WH 20.VI.13, verso Nr. 447. Kl. Retuschen. - Deutsch-tschechischer Universalkünstler. H. begann seine Ausbildung an der Kunstgewerbeschule Wien, 1906 wechselte er an die Akademie Prag. Dank eines von F. Avenarius in Dresden vermittelten Stipendiums konnte der Künstler 1907 nach Sylt reisen, 1908 ließ er sich in Itzehoe nieder. Seine Entwürfe von 'Kristallbauten' wurden wegweisend für die expressionistische Architektur und brachten ihn in der Künstlerveinigung der 'Gläsernen Kette' u.a. mit W. Gropius, H. Scharoun und B. Taut in Kontakt. Durch seinen Berliner Galeristen H. Walden lernte er auch K. Schmidt-Rottluff und U. Boccioni kennen. In seinen häufig flächig-ornamental gestalteten Gemälden versuchte H. die Urgewalten von Meer, Gebirge und Kosmos zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Seine Entwürfe für Inneneinrichtungen und Textilien gehören zur Avantgarde ihrer Zeit, seine Bedeutung wird bis heute immer wieder in Ausstellungen gewürdigt. Mus.: Itzehoe (Wenzel Hablik-Mus.), Hamburg (MK&G), Prag (Nat.-Gal.), Schleswig, Berlin, Flensburg, Regensburg. Lit.: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Bénézit, Der Neue Rump, Schulte-Wülwer: Sylt.
