Partie in Ravello, Villa Rufolo R. u. signiert, Ortsbezeichnung Rom und 1839 datiert. L. u. bezeichnet Ravello. Aquarell und braune Tusche auf festem Papier, auf Karton aufgelegt. 30,5 x 23,5 cm. Rahmen. Werner studierte zuerst in Leipzig bei Hans Veit Schnorr von Carolsfeld, ab 1829 Architekturmalerei bei Friedrich von Gärtner in München. 1831 erhielt er das große Reisestipendium für Italien, das ihn 1832 über Venedig, Bologna und Florenz nach Rom führte. Ab 1851 unterhielt er ein Meisteratelier für Aquarellmalerei in Venedig, ließ sich aber 1856 wieder in Leipzig nieder, ohne jedoch seine umfangreiche Reisetätigkeit zu unterbrechen. Die dargestellte Villa Rufolo befindet sich im Herzen des historischen Zentrums von Ravello in der Provinz Salerno. Sie wurde im 13. Jahrhundert erbaut und im 19. Jahrhundert baulich verändert. Zu den architektonischen Glanzstücken der Villa zählt der im Stil eines Klosters gehaltene Innenhof, den Werner hier malerisch mit Staffagefiguren und verschiedenen dekorativen Elementen belebt.
