WEST, Robert (XX secolo) - Suite apocaliptique de la Gènese a l'Apocalypse. France: 1932-1934.

Original Art Decò work inspired by the Apocalypse by a mysterious French illustrator. The drawings follow one another from the genesis of the world, passing through the degeneration and subsequent catastrophe to end with the rebirth and reconciliation of man with the divine. It is certainly a corpus of esoteric inspiration based on Christian mysticism but with a modern profane symbolism. The drawings are academic but the composition is generally well done and is inspired by 19th-century symbolist tradition of Moreau and Rops. There isn't any information about the author, but a similar manuscript was sold at auction (Lot 287, Siprit of Erotica III, 16/12/2010. Delarme, Collin Du Bocage).

Folio (493 x 350mm). Manuscript, frontispiece with title, on the verso a watercolour frame with the artist's monogram, an illuminated watercolour page with a quote from Goethe in French, 46 pencil drawings on paper with interventions in white applied on the page, most protected by tissue paper, 2 lithographic plates riproducing drawings (5 and 44), 4 woodcuts, two of them watercoloured, printed using the blocks preserved in the binding. Contemporary dark morocco signed Renè Kieffer, Paris, with two woodblocks inserted on the covers, coloured endpapers (light wear).
