Lot 311 | Wiener Werkstätten (vermutlich)
Wiener Werkstätten (vermutlich) - Unusual armchair, circa 1930/40, with walnut (or rosewood) veneer, partly stained in black at corners, wicker seat and upholstered cushion on top with gray-brown suede cover. This unique chair stylistically combines many pre-movements of modernism, yet remains very clear in its own design language. From Chinese Chippendale, to formative elements of the Art & Crafts movement, to the pioneering designs of pioneering architect and furniture designer Bruno Paul (1874-1968) for the Vereinigte Werkstätten in Munich, this harmonious symphony reflects a range of quality ciphers. The resulting aesthetic of the beautifully designed frame is unique, enhanced by the individual patterns of the wood veins. The design of this armchair emphasizes the uniqueness and originality of handmade objects from natural materials, and at the same time is characterized by a thoughtful play of geometric lines and open shapes. - Collection Dr. Jörg Kees (1932 - 2022), Stuttgart.
