Estimate value
£ 2 000 – 3 000
Cricketers' Almanack for 1917, edited by Sydney H. Pardon. London: John Wisden and Co., 1917.
An excellent hardback copy of the 54th edition, described by the editor as 'rather a mournful volume', so long was the 'roll of honour' of the war dead which F.S. Ashley-Cooper had compiled. Even apart from the war, writes Pardon in the preface, 'death has been very busy among cricketers'. The binding and endpapers of this copy are as new.
Octavo (162 x 97mm). (Internally fine and clean.) Original brown hardback publisher's cloth gilt, printed yellow endpapers (extremities faintly rubbed, lower corners slightly more heavily).
