Lot 1944 | Wise, C.
- Private album with 53 original drawings by 'C. Wise à St. Omer' (5 in sepia, 48 in pencil). Artistic and atmospheric depictions of buildings and landscapes in and around Rome, Tivoli, Terracina, Gaeta, Lago Alba, Lago Nemi et al. Mostly with ms. caption in lower margin of drawing (in French), few dated 1831-1834. Mounted on 46 leaves. Contemp. half calf with some gilt decoration on spine and ms. title on mouned label on front board. C. Wise was an English-American draughtsman, engraver and perhaps publisher, who left Europe around 1850 and died in the US around 1889. - Uper right corner of binding and album leaves slightly damaged by damp, drawings not affected, few quires partly loose. Binding rubbed.
